Description

The Langstone Hotel is a large house dating from the mid-19th century, built in the Victorian Gothic style. It is constructed of flint walls with flush yellow brick dressings, featuring quoins and cambered arches with hood-moulds. The roof is slate-covered, with decorative bargeboards to the gables and a central gablet. The west front has two windows in the recessed centre, flanked by unequal gabled sides extending to two storeys and an attic, each with one window. Sashes with narrow side panes are used throughout, with a projected oriel frame in the centre. The ground floor on the north side incorporates a splayed brick bay with three sashes, which merge into a central porch. The porch has a battered parapet above a small corbel table arcade, with recessed Tudor arches – the wider arch on the north side serves as the entrance. The building features massive stacks, one with six separated flues and another with three diagonal flues. The other elevations are irregular but share similar architectural details.
