Description

The Old Parsonage is a large, timber-framed house dating from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, with some modern additions. It has two storeys and an attic, featuring an irregular arrangement of windows. The building runs north-south and has a cross wing that projects at the north end on the east side. In the middle of the east side, a staircase wing extends further as a narrower structure, with the entrance located between the two gabled sections.

To the south of the staircase block and on the north side, there are large Tudor chimney stacks with rectangular bases that support three separate diagonal flues. The roof is covered with red tiles, and the south gable is clad. A high gabled dormer is present on the east side, and the stacks are linked to the main roof. The east side shows exposed timber framing (north of the stack) and gables on the west side, with red brick infill. The other walls are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond on the west and south sides, as well as the south side of the east elevation and the more recent extensions, with blue headers above a plinth on the south gable.

The west elevation, which dates from the 18th century, features a first-floor band, a plinth, and pilasters flanking the doorway. Throughout the building, there are casement windows and old door frames that include three-pane fanlights and boarded doors. At the north end, there are three modern single-storey extensions made of brick and tile. Inside, the house contains a Tudor fireplace, a panelled screen that divides the main ground-floor area, old doors, and a small cellar. To the north of the house, there are three small detached sheds with steep tiled roofs and brick-nogged timber frames.
