Description

The barn at Down Farm, located to the southeast of the farmhouse, dates from the early 19th century and consists of two phases. The larger section is a substantial 9-bay unit that features a smaller 4-bay unit positioned at right angles. The larger barn includes one aisle, with its frame supported by brick pillars and an enclosing brick wall. It has a truss with a high collar, struts, and straight braces, topped with a red tile roof. The upper walls are weather-boarded. The smaller unit has a truss with straight struts and braces resting on a low brick wall, also covered by a red tile roof that is hipped at an angle, with a hipped roof over a porch that projects on braces. Its walls are similarly weather-boarded.
