Description

The barn at Downlands Farm is a 16th-century structure with a 17th-century extension to the south. It is timber-framed and sits upon a brick plinth, with weatherboarding and a plain tiled roof. The roof is hipped to the north with a gablet, and half-hipped to the south, featuring a deep catslide to the west and wagon doors to the east. Internally, the barn comprises five bays. The northern three bays exhibit two sets of purlins, the upper of which is supported by wind braces. The southern two bays have staggered purlins. Jowled posts support queen post trusses; the southernmost bay features a simple queen truss.
