Description

Buckswood Grange is a private school built in 1838 by Sydney Smirke, later converted into housing. Originally the home of the Streatfield family, it was constructed in the Tudor style. The asymmetrical building is two storeys and has an attic. It is built of red brick, with diaper patterns on the ground floor. Stone is used for long and short quoins, window dressings, and the plinth. The building features clustered brick chimney pots. The front elevation includes a projecting two-storey portion with a gable topped with ball finials, and an oriel window to the first floor. A four-centred stone archway is topped with a hood moulding. A recessed portion has a pierced stone panel with coping, a moulded eaves cornice, a partial stringcourse, and mullioned and transomed windows. The right side of the building has two shaped gables and blank cartouches.
