Description

The Close Cottage dates from the early 19th century. It was originally a square building with symmetrical facades, though it has since been extended southwards. The cottage is one storey high, with a slate hipped roof and a chimney stack positioned at the original pyramid. The north facade features a central arched recess, flanked by two rectangular recesses on either side. These recesses create four wide pilasters, decorated with a grooved fret design, and linked by a plinth at the base and a horizontal moulding below the eaves. The arched openings within these recesses, and the central archway, are now blank panels. A southwards extension on the west side incorporates an arched doorway, with three panels, each containing a window: two old sash windows and a modern casement. On the east side, sash windows are positioned on either side of the central doorway, which now has a porch. The extension on the east side includes two unequal casements.
