Description

This building, at 125 and 126 High Street, is a former house, coffee shop, and tavern, constructed in 1776. It was originally built as the residence of the Theatre Manager, Henry Thornton, and incorporated a coffee shop, tavern, and the theatre's booking office. The building later served as a chapel in 1827 and has subsequently been altered with modern shopfronts to the ground floor.

The exterior is constructed of red brick laid in Flemish bond, with blue brick used as headers. A stone coping runs along the pediment. The roof of 125 High Street is slate, while 126 High Street has a hipped tile roof. The upper floors feature a rhythmic arrangement of segmental-headed sash windows: two bays on the left side, three bays in the central section topped with a pediment, and a single bay on the right. The pediment is detailed with brick dentils and a stone coping, supported by projecting brackets. Some of the original sash windows remain.
