Description

The Old Dormy House, dating from the late 18th century, was originally the stables for Hook Park mansion, which was destroyed by fire in 1903. The building is constructed of red brick with a hipped slate roof. It is two storeys high with five windows, the central three bays slightly projecting and topped with a pediment. The first-floor windows have Venetian shutters. They are sash windows with glazing bars; the ground-floor windows are round-arched with three lights each, with the centre light enlarged to create a French window. A porch of likely modern construction features Doric columns, a pediment, and a round-headed doorway with a fanlight. Single-storey, one-bay outshuts with symmetrical reproduction porches flank the main building; the western outshut has no door. The Old Dormy House and its attached walls are considered to form a significant group.
