Description
Dean Farmhouse is a 16th century and later timber-framed house located on Wickham Road in Fareham. The building features square panel framing with red brick infill and has two asymmetrical gables. The western part of the house is lower and rendered, topped with an old tiled roof that is hipped at the western end. There is an off-centre chimney. The main section of the house has two windows supported by brackets, with mullions and a transom, as well as a small window in each gable and a hipped roof dormer. The central door is topped with a small flat hood on brackets. The western part of the house is two storeys high and has two casement windows.
Inside, the farmhouse boasts ogee stop-chamfered cornices and moulded beams. There is a door located behind the fireplace that may have served as a Priest's Chamber or powder closet, reportedly connected to Roche Court by a secret passage. The interior also features 17th century panelling and two fireplaces adorned with caryatids. One fireplace includes carved panelling, while the other is flanked by fluted Ionic pilasters, with lozenges above the fireplace, cornices, and arcading between the caryatids.
