Description

The Church of St John the Evangelist, built in 1874 by J Colson, features an aisleless nave with three bays, a south porch, and a transeptal chapel on the south side of the east end. The chancel has a half hexagon apsidal east end, with a north vestry opposite the south tower. Designed in the Early English style, the church is constructed with coursed rubble stone walls and ashlar dressings, along with buttresses, bands, and a plinth. The nave windows are adorned with hoodmoulds above coupled lights and plate tracery, while the chancel and chapel showcase Geometrical Tracery. The tower is built in three stages, featuring buttresses, eaves, and an octagonal broach spire with lunettes. The roof is covered with red tiles. Inside, there is a single-moulded chancel arch with still-leaf caps and short Purbeck shafts.
