Description

Hodges Farmhouse is a house built in the late 17th century and later in 1766. It has brick walls and a tiled roof. The building consists of two parts: the first is a timber-framed house that has been clad in brick, and the second is a slightly wider and taller unit attached to the front. The symmetrical front, facing southwest, has two storeys and an attic with five windows. The roof is plain and features a central gabled dormer with casement windows. The red brick walls are laid in header bond and include moulded brick eaves, rubbed flat arches, a moulded band at the first floor, and a plinth. Each side has a pilaster made of rusticated blocks, which returns on the end gables, topped with a cornice that incorporates the eaves moulding. Above this, there is a section of wall that returns to the gable and has a coping, indicating a former parapet along the entire front. The windows are sashes with thick glazing bars. The brick doorway projects slightly and features a pediment, key to the arched opening, impost bands, and a plinth, with a radiating fanlight above a six-panelled door. Inside, the original staircase from 1766 has a half-landing leading into the rear block, and there is dado panelling in the staircase, hall, and rooms, along with architraves and panelled doors. The rear block is two storeys lower, has a catslide roof, and is built with brick walls in Flemish bond, featuring cambered openings, casements, and a boarded door in a plain opening.
