Description
Shalden Lodge is a house built in the late 18th century, with early and late 19th-century alterations and additions. It features stucco walls, a hipped tile roof over the main part, and a slate roof over the lower service wing. The front, facing north-west, is symmetrical with two storeys and three windows, including a service wing on the north side with two windows. The walls are plain, with a plinth and stone cills, and the centre slightly projects. The windows are sashes set in reveals, including one triple sash and two Victorian sashes. There is an open Doric porch with a cornice and frieze, coupled columns at the front, single pilasters against the wall, an architrave surrounding a wide doorway, and coupled three-panelled doors, two of which are glazed at the top. The service wing has a half gable and a small gable. The south-west elevation is symmetrical with two windows and features a wide rectangular bay on the ground floor to the south side, although it has a small flat-roofed extension at the south side. The south-east elevation is irregular, with the main part standing forward from the older block and having its own roof; it has two storeys and four windows, with the upper sashes featuring arched heads.
