Description

Manor Farmhouse is a house dating back to the 16th century, with alterations in the early 19th century and 20th-century extensions. It has a tiled roof and external walls constructed of various materials. The house is of timber frame construction in an L-shape, with later 20th-century wings added. It has two storeys with an irregular arrangement of windows. The south-east elevation features only two windows along a long wall, while the north end includes a projecting wing with a gable. A large, shafted stack rises from the centre of the roof, and another large, stepped stack is located at the south side of the wing. The upper walls are largely tile-hung (a 20th-century addition) over brick walls in Flemish bond. The wing has flint walls with brick dressings, with the upper gable also tile-hung. Sections of the timber frame are exposed on the north-east wall and at the rear, with brick infill and other walling, and high plinths. The rear wings, added in the 20th century, feature tile hanging above brickwork on the larger north side, while the south wing has some exposed brick and frame nogging in the gable. The windows include casements, with several early 19th-century cast-iron diamond frames. A boarded door is set within a substantial porch. Inside, elements of the original timber framing are visible, along with two large fireplaces. One room features a Tudor arch to the fireplace, with a massive chimney breast that incorporates an oven. Between a passageway and the room with the Tudor fireplace is a 16th-century oak-panelled screen and door. A staircase, added later, has 18th-century turned balusters, apparently taken from another building.
