Description
Moundsmere Manor is a country house built between 1908 and 1909 by Reginald Blomfield for Wilfred Buckley, designed in the style of Sir Christopher Wren. The house is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and features two storeys and an attic.
The south front has a symmetrical arrangement of two, three, and two bays, with the central three bays protruding. This section is accentuated by four giant Tuscan pilasters and an entablature at the second floor level, which continues around the building with similar pilasters at the corners. Above, there is a second order of pilasters on the attic storey, topped by a stone feature over the parapet. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are framed by stone architraves. The central doorway is topped with a segmental pediment, flanked by consoles beside the window above. Stone panels with swags are located between the ground and first floor windows to the left and right of the doorway. In the attic, there are three bulls-eye windows surrounded by swags, and the parapet over the center features a stone balustrade. To the east, there is a three-bay wing that is set back.
The entrance front to the north has flanking wings that have been reduced in length, projecting two and three bays. The north front mirrors the three-bay centerpiece but lacks the bulls-eye windows in the attic. Instead, it features a rusticated stone doorway with a segmental open pediment and a cartouche.
Although the interior has not been inspected, it is reported to contain notable features, including an entrance hall with an Ionic column screen, moulded plasterwork, and a wrought iron balustrade on the staircase.
