Description

This is a 16th and 17th century timber-framed farmhouse, situated at Holdrops Hill, Kingsclere. The house was later clad in brick and has two storeys and an attic, originally with a three-window front. The roof is tiled, with a half-hip at the south end and a catslide to the rear, incorporating a small hipped dormer. The brick walling is in a Flemish bond pattern, with a moulded band above the ground floor and rubbed flat arches to the ground-floor windows. A stepped plinth is also visible. A terra-cotta plaque above the front door bears the raised date 1691. The windows are leaded casements, some of which are original, and there is an old boarded front door. Inside, there is an old window opening, which would have originally looked out onto an earlier, smaller building's outer wall. This opening is now filled with wavy wooden slats.
