Description

Fair View is a house dating from around the 1830s, with later alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of Flemish bond red brick with a blue brick front and red brick dressings, while the southwest end is tile-hung. The roof is gable-ended and covered with Welsh slate, featuring brick gable-end stacks.

The building has a T-shaped plan, consisting of a two-room front range with a central entrance and a two-storey wing at the rear, which includes an outshut at the end and later outshuts in the angles. The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-bay southeast front. The first floor features 16-pane sash windows, with a 12-pane sash window in the center, all set in red brick openings with flat brick arches. The ground floor has two large canted bay windows with hipped slate canopies, which have replacement sashes with glazing bars. The central doorway includes a flush panelled and glazed door, along with a later 19th-century gabled brick porch that has rusticated brick quoins, a chamfered four-centred arch doorway, and small side windows with four-centred arches and coloured glass panes.

At the rear, there is a gable-ended wing with sash windows, an outshut at the end with a sash window and a raised roof, as well as later outshuts in the angles. Inside, the joinery features include chimneypieces, panelled cupboard doors, and possibly other elements. Fair View is a largely complete small late Georgian house, notable for its fine brick front.
