Description

Summerhaugh Cottage is an early 19th-century structure with a 17th-century timber frame. It is located on The Square in St Mary Bourne. The cottage presents a symmetrical three-window frontage (facing south) of one storey and attic. It has a thatched roof, with the eaves raised above the attic windows and cills at eaves level. The walls are rendered, with plain pilasters dividing the elevation into three equal bays, with a narrower entrance bay between the second and third upper casements. The windows are lower sashes of 20 lights. A five-panelled door is set in a solid frame, with a hood supported by curved brackets, and later side screens. A single-storeyed outbuilding with a slate roof and flint walls with brick dressings adjoins the west side of the cottage. The timber frame is exposed at the rear of the building.
