Description

The buildings at 22 and 24 Church Street date from the early 19th century and form a wide pair of two-storey properties with a symmetrical front of three by three windows. The roof is low-pitched and covered with slate. The front elevation is constructed of yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with decorative pilasters featuring moulded caps, rubbed flat arches, stone sills, a blue brick plinth, and a blue base band above. Upper-floor windows are simple sashes. The ground-floor windows are varied; the central windows are large angular bays with a cornice, coupled brackets, a decorative pilaster, a stone base, and Victorian sashes. The outer windows are French windows with decorative architraves and cornices on brackets. Each doorway has a thin canopy supported by elaborate brackets, thin pilasters, a fanlight, and a six-panelled door. The south and west walls are of flint with red brick quoins and six horizontal bands, while the north wall is of yellow brickwork in an English bond pattern. Modern extensions are present at the rear of the building.
