Description
Nos 18 and 20 Church Street is a building that dates from the 17th century, with significant alterations made in the early 19th and early 20th centuries. The structure is primarily an old block that has been substantially modified. At the rear, a timber-framed house with one storey and an attic is visible, featuring a tile roof, a small gabled dormer, and brick-nogged framing, along with a large chimney stack.
The south side, which is No 20, has been raised to two storeys and includes one window from the early 19th century. This side has a slate roof, rendered walls, casement windows, and a cornice above the doorframe. The north side has been altered to create a symmetrical two-storey front, divided by pilasters into three sections with one window each. This side features a central gable with an attic window, roughcast walls, sash and casement windows, and an early 19th-century doorcase. The centre front retains low eaves and includes a shopfront. There are also additional irregular structures at the rear. The building is noted for its mixed periods and has group value within its context.
