Description

The Cottage and The Hermitage are a cruk-framed building dating to the 15th century, with alterations in the 17th and 19th centuries. An end extension was added at a later date. The building has one storey and an attic, with five windows. The roof is tiled, half-hipped at the east end, featuring a tile-hung gable and a decorative ridge tile. A prominent central stack is dated 1668. Five gabled dormers are present, with cills at eaves level. The walls are roughcast, with a cement plinth. Modern casement windows are installed. There are two doorways, one with a panelled door, and both are sheltered by canopies. An opening, formerly a doorway, serves as a garage entrance at the east end. Later rear outshots have been added to the building.
