Description
Falcons is a Grade II listed building that dates from the 16th century, 17th century, and mid-19th century. Originally known as the Falcon Inn, it is a timber-framed house with lower wings at the rear on each end. The main block was reclad during the last period of construction. The building has two storeys and features a regular east elevation with four windows. The roof is tiled, hipped at the south and south-west, half-hipped at the north, with a gabled north wing and a catslide roof at the rear. The walls are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, while the prominent north wing along Newbury Road has brick-nogged timber-framing and a jetty at the end part, which may have been a barn or malthouse. The south side is roughcast. The east front has Victorian three-light sash windows, while the other windows are casements. There is a glazed front door. The rear courtyard retains the earlier character of the building.
