Description
Tower Hill Cottages is a mid-19th century block of four cottages, designed in the Butterfield style. The symmetrical front faces south and features two storeys with a layout of 1.4.1 windows. The cottages have tile roofs that are half-hipped at the ends, with lower eaves on the slightly projecting sides. Tall brick stacks have tile-hung lower parts. The walls are made of red brick in Flemish bond, accented with several flush blue bands, including an upper band intersected by diaper patterns. The first floor has a projecting blue band with recessed blue headers above and below. The angular openings are adorned with dark brick voussoirs and a plinth. The windows are three-light casements with cast-iron frames and Gothic heads, and they feature stone cills. Gabled brick porches are present at Nos 8 and 10. The west gable displays four vertical blue diaper patterns intersecting horizontal bands, along with a central brick porch that has a single-pitched roof and a side doorway facing the front. The east gable is similar, but the porch has been removed.
