Description
The wind engine and former mill house, built around 1891, was made by John Wallis Titt. The wind engine is constructed of iron with a steel tower, while the mill house is made of red brick in English bond and features a half-hipped plain tile roof. The wind engine has a tapering, hexagonal, cross-braced tower approximately 6 metres (20 feet) tall. The brackets from the former platform have been removed, and it has a sail frame with a fantail, although the sails have been removed. Some sheeting and cogged machinery remain.
The mill house has stepped eaves, and the gable end next to the engine has a blocked low-level opening that contains the shaft from the engine, along with a boarded door below a header brick arch. There is a bricked-up opening in the opposite gable and an inserted doorway at the eaves on the north side. The sails were taken down and stored in the 1960s, and parts of the machinery and tower structure are now lying on the ground beside it. This wind engine was based on John Wallis Titt's 'Simplex' design and was used to pump water from a 410-foot well and to grind corn.
