Description
Grotto Lodge is a mid-19th century, three-storey circular house located in Highclere Park. It features a short two-storey corridor that connects to a circular stair turret, with a single-storey outshot attached to the south of the main section. The visible roofing is slate, topped by a lead cone above the stair turret. The building is constructed with flint walling and stone dressings, including coping on the main part and a castellated parapet on the middle section. The stair tower has an eaves band supported by brackets, and there is a first-floor band that runs around the entire building. The openings have flush frames, and there is a brick plinth at the base, which is slightly battered. The windows include lancet openings and casements, with sash windows on the ground floor. The doorways are arched and feature boarded doors. Additionally, there are cross-shaped 'arrow-slits' and a central octagonal castellated stack above the main block.
