Description
Maesgwyn is a 2-storey house situated on a sloping site, featuring an integral rear stair turret. The building is constructed of rubble stone and topped with a steep slate roof. At the downhill gable end, there is a large stepped external brick stack, which is partly obscured by a 19th-century wing. The house also has stone ridge stacks located centrally on the left and at the left end.
The original 17th-century house has a doorway to the left of centre, which is set within an added lean-to porch that has a replaced boarded door. The windows on the lower storey feature wooden lintels and mainly consist of replaced 2-light casements. To the right of the porch are two windows for the hall, while there is a parlour window to the left. The upper storey contains two windows, and above the porch is a small blocked window framed by a 17th-century dressed stone surround. To the left of the parlour window is a vertical joint, followed by a second parlour that was added in the 19th century, which has a replaced casement beneath a tooled stone lintel. The left (uphill) gable end features French doors under a segmental head, along with windows on the upper right and left, both under stone lintels.
The right (downhill) gable end has a lean-to structure with an inserted window and doorway, situated against the lower wing, which is set back from the main range. This wing includes a replaced window on the upper storey and a brick end stack. The rear of the house is highlighted by the lower gabled stair turret, which has a coped gable supported by moulded kneelers. In the gable end of the turret, there is a 2-light window at the lower level, along with blocked windows in dressed surrounds above and on the left side wall. On the right side of the turret, there is an added lean-to, and behind the lower wing at the downhill end, there is an added conservatory.
Inside, the hall and parlour feature stop-chamfered beams. The parlour retains a stone-lintelled fireplace, while another stone-lintelled fireplace is located in the 19th-century parlour at the upper end. The original stair turret still has a stone winding stair.
