Description

Whytgates, dating from the 17th century with early 19th-century alterations, is a two-storey L-shaped building with a later lower extension at the south end, known as No 1. It features an old tiled roof and two large tapered stacks with tiled offsets behind crowsteps, although one stack is obscured by the extension. The building is constructed of red brick in English bond, with a first-floor band, rubbed flat arches over the original ground-floor openings, and a high plinth. The extension is built in Monk bond and has cambered ground-floor openings. Windows are casements, and there is a boarded door in a solid frame. No 1 includes a trellis porch and an arched doorway with a fanlight.
