Description

Sussex House Farmhouse is a timber-framed house dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, built in several sections. It has two storeys and originally had three window bays, although the front, facing north, now has only glazed casement windows. The two easternmost window bays are from the 15th century and retain close-studding. The westernmost bay was added in the 16th century and features curved braces and a gable. Three original windows on the front are now blocked. The glazed windows consist of three with diamond-leaded panes, one with old green glass, and three with small square leaded panes. A modern gable porch incorporates an old finial and pendant. The roof is tiled, with a pentice at the rear. An early extension to the south side resulted in an altered external wall, now faced with weather-boarding. The east side of the house is largely tile-hung. Inside, the farmhouse retains good open fireplaces and ceiling beams.
