Description

Rainbow's End, also known as No. 4 Bray's Hill, is a pair of cottages dating from the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The ground floor features Flemish bond brickwork with grey headers, while No. 3 is painted. The first floor is tile-hung, and both cottages have a peg-tiled roof with external brick chimneystacks at the ends. Originally designed with two windows, they now have four.

The exterior of No. 4 includes one window with an original architrave on both the ground and first floors, with the first-floor window being a 19th-century pintle-hinged leaded light window. Additionally, No. 4 has a 19th-century gabled weatherboarded porch with a tiled roof and an original plank door. In contrast, No. 3 features a very small window in the center of the first floor, a late 20th-century wooden casement window to the right, and a smaller late 20th-century casement window at the extreme right. The ground floor of No. 3 has a late 20th-century re-sited wooden casement window and a weatherboarded porch with a gabled tiled roof. There is also a late 20th-century extension at the rear of No. 3, built with matching materials.

Inside, No. 4 reportedly has an original wooden half-winder staircase. No. 3 has a re-sited 20th-century staircase, modern doors, and re-sited partitions, but retains its original roof with reused timbers that have redundant mortise holes. The ground floor front room features exposed floor joists of thin scantling and a brick floor.
