Description
Whitefriars is a building from 1578, now serving as the Headquarters of the St John's Ambulance Brigade of Rye. The house features two wings and a slight projection to the north. The west wing has a plastered front on the south side, likely dating from the 17th century, which may cover an earlier timber-framed structure beneath. On the north side, this wing has an 18th-century brick front on the ground floor, with tiles hung above and a bay window. This wing is two storeys high with an attic and has three windows.
To the west is an 18th-century wing built in two sections, featuring two gables facing Conduit Hill and a mansard roof on both the north and south sides. This wing has three storeys, with one window on the south side and two on the north side. The ground floor includes an arcade on the north side, and the upper part is also hung with tiles. The roof is tiled, and there is a wooden eaves cornice. On the south side, there is a small two-storey addition connecting the two wings. The doorway, located on the side facing Conduit Hill, has a flat hood supported by brackets. A massive chimney is situated on the west side.
