Description

Adelaide House is a circa 1835 stucco-fronted building in St Leonards, originally four storeys high with a more recent attic. The building has a cornice above the second floor and a further cornice and parapet above the third floor. The ground, first, and second floor windows are set within moulded architrave surrounds, those on the first floor also featuring cornices. The building is five windows wide, with the left-hand three windows arranged in a segmental curved bay. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, the bay windows having side lights. An iron balcony is situated on the first floor of the bay. A doorway, positioned off-centre to the right of the bay, features a moulded architrave, a rectangular fanlight, and a panelled door. The modern attic is set back behind the parapet and has a flat roof. The building has been recently restored. Queen Adelaide and Princess Augusta resided here during the winter of 1837-8.
