Description

The Highlands Hotel, dated 1874, is a Gothic style building constructed of stone with dressed stone quoins and details. It features a corbelled parapet and very steep-pitched slate hipped roofs. The building comprises two blocks with splayed angles, standing three storeys high with attics. It has three windows wide, with a stone segmental bowed oriel on the first floor to the right, and the remaining windows possessing flat heads with rounded angles, moulded cill courses, and steep hipped roof dormers. A carriageway, set back, leads to a high arch and a three-storeyed tower with a steep pyramidal roof, connecting to mews at the rear. These mews surround a long, oblong courtyard. The complex includes two-storeyed stables with segmental arched carriage doors and balconies above to accommodation on the first floor, all constructed of stone with slate roofs.
