Description

This is a house dating from the early 16th century, significantly altered and modernised over time. Originally a two-framed bay hall house with a single framed bay service wing at the rear, it now includes a large 19th-century extension to the right. The hall house's south front has been refaced with brick, featuring two three-light dormers in the eaves and tile-hung gablets. The ground floor contains two three-light casement windows with brick soldier courses above, and a 20th-century lean-to extension with a tile roof sits on the left. The east gable displays a high-quality 16th-century timber frame with brick infill. The older service wing, originally of two storeys plus a lower ground floor, has a tile roof and was refaced in the 17th century with brick over an older flint base, and includes a large central chimney on the ridge and a three-course brick plat band at first floor level. It features three-light leaded casement windows. Internally, the timber frame is of good quality, with large old timber joists across the lower ground floor, later joists at the first floor. The building is said to have been used as a schoolhouse during the Elizabethan period.
