Description

This memorial stone, dating from the late 18th century, is oval in shape and features a moulded and carved frame. It stands on a plinth and bears the inscription: "This road was made by subscription of Countess of Leicester, Countess Gower, Lady Hervey, Mrs Montague, Mrs Hewer, Mrs Barham, The Rev. Neville Neville, James Ed. Collerton Esq., Sam'L Bowes Esq., Romsey Bowes Esq., Robert Palmer Esq., Surveyed by Mr. Basnett" dated 1770. The stone was originally located at Marchfield, Binfield, and was moved to its current location on Forest Road in Bill Hill in 1936.
