Description
No. 5 Shute End is a cottage that dates back to the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and an extension added in the 20th century. The building features a timber frame, with sections covered in stucco and painted render, and has an old tile gabled roof. It has a rectangular plan consisting of two framed bays and a former cross passage, with the timber frame visible at the rear. The cottage is one and a half storeys tall and has a tall ridge chimney on the right, topped with clay pots. The front is stuccoed and includes a gablet on the left with a sash window. On the ground floor, there is an early 20th-century shop front, which features a glazed entrance door on the left and a small two-light casement window on the right.
