Description
No. 3 Shute End is a cottage dating from the late 16th century, with alterations and extensions made in the early 18th century and mid-20th century. The building is timber framed, with parts encased in painted brick and painted stucco, and features an old tile gabled roof. It has a rectangular plan consisting of three framed bays, with part of the frame visible at the rear. The cottage is two storeys high, with an attic and a cellar. There are chimneys with clay pots located on the left and right, just in front of the ridge. The eaves are decorated with wooden modillion. On both floors, there are three sash windows with architrave surrounds, and the first-floor windows have glazing bars. The entrance door is half glazed and panelled, situated between the first and second windows from the left, and is sheltered by a flat hood with cut brackets. This cottage, along with No. 1 Shute End (listed separately), may have once been part of No. 43 Broad Street (also listed separately).
