Description

Luckley House School is a large country house set in landscaped grounds, now functioning as a private school. It was designed in 1907 by Sir Ernest Newton in a free Elizabethan style. The building is constructed of brick, featuring red brick quoins and a hipped tile roof. It has an H-plan layout with significant extensions added in the mid and late 20th century on the northeast side.

The house is two storeys tall with attics and is adorned with two large chimneys, one on each wing, which have clustered diagonal shafts and offset heads on rectangular bases. A smaller chimney is located on the ridge of the central section. The exterior includes a brick plat band and a bold moulded eaves cornice with modillions. The windows are square leaded casements.

The northwest front of the building is symmetrical, with a central section that has three wide bays; the centre bay slightly projects and features a large semi-circular moulded hood above a pair of panelled doors, accessed by two stone steps. Above the entrance, there is a three-light casement window, with four-light casements at both ends on each floor. A small bull's eye window is positioned to the right of the entrance. Each side has projecting wings with flat roof dormers that contain two-light casements.

The southeast garden front mirrors the northwest front's symmetry, featuring three flat roof dormers in the central section and one in each wing. It has a similar central porch with a garden door leading to a small paved terrace. Each projecting wing includes large octagonal bays on the ground floor, which have eight single lights topped with copper domed roofs, and two three-light casements above.
