Description
Grove Hall Lodge is a small house built in the late 19th century in a 'Muscular' Gothic style. The structure is made of brick, featuring string courses and raised diaper patterns in burnt headers, with stone dressings. It has pointed polychromatic brick arches above some windows and bays, adorned with terracotta decorative tiling in the tympana. The roof is slate, half hipped, and covered with two double courses of fish scale slates, along with decorative iron ridge tiles and finials. There are two chimneys with offset dentil heads. The plan of the building is irregular, and it stands two storeys high, with one and a half storeys on the east side. The windows are a mix of sash and casement styles, arranged in irregular elevations. The closed entrance porch is located at the southeast corner and features a quatrefoil window next to a narrow window in a stone surround, along with the original herringbone planked wooden door that has ornate wrought iron strap hinges. The porch is supported by a small open carved wooden roof truss on chamfered wood posts, with a pointed arch between, and has a pent slate roof.
