Description

The George Inn is a public house that originated as a cottage in the late 16th century and has undergone alterations and extensions in the mid-18th century, 19th century, and 20th century. The building features a mix of timber framing with painted brick infill and painted render, topped with an old tile roof that is hipped at the front and gabled at the rear. It has a rectangular plan consisting of four framed bays, with extensions at the front and side. The structure is two storeys high and has large chimneys at each end of the front section, along with a smaller chimney near the ridge of the rear section, all fitted with clay pots.

The entrance is located on the north-east front, facing The Green, and consists of two bays. Notable architectural details include dentilled eaves and a black painted plinth. On the first floor, there are two sash windows with glazing bars, with the right window being larger. The ground floor features a 19th-century canted bay window on the left, which has a flat roof, and a 20th-century gabled, enclosed porch in the centre with a plank door. To the right, there is a three-light casement window with glazing bars, likely from the late 18th century, accompanied by a panelled shutter on the left. A plain lean-to extension is located on the right side. Inside, the timber frame is exposed, showcasing a queen post roof with clasped purlins.
