Description

The Odney Club is a large house set in landscaped grounds, currently functioning as a conference centre and social club. It was built in the mid-18th century and has undergone alterations and extensions in the late 19th century, as well as in the early and mid-20th centuries. The building is constructed of brick and features gabled and hipped tiled roofs of varying heights. Originally designed with a symmetrical central staircase plan, the layout is now irregular due to extensions on the sides and the north front. It stands three storeys tall with a cellar and has several chimneys topped with clay pots.

The south front of the building has a battlemented parapet and a symmetrical central section that includes a two-storey cant bay with a railed balcony above. The windows are sash style with glazing bars and gauged brick arches. There is a part-glazed door on the left side, framed by a Tuscan doorcase and pediment. Flanking the central section are 19th-century, three-storey bowed bays with sash windows on the first and second floors and French casements on the ground floor. The north front is more irregular, featuring one, two, and three storeys, with one- and two-storey extensions on either side that are of no special interest.

Inside, there is a fine 18th-century dog-leg staircase located at the rear of the central section, which boasts barley sugar balusters, a moulded handrail, and panelled newels, along with a panelled dado.
