Description
Eastgate is a large house located on Sutton Road in Cookham. It dates from the 17th century but was rebuilt in the mid-18th century and extended in the 19th century. The building is constructed of brick and features an old tile gabled roof. It has a rectangular plan, with a gabled stair turret and a rear extension. The house stands two storeys tall with attics and has two very tall chimneys at the rear topped with clay pots.
The front of the house has five bays and a bull nose plinth. There is a moulded string at the first-floor level and a moulded brick eaves cornice. The roof includes three gabled dormers with casement windows, while the other floors have sash windows, although the glazing has been altered. The entrance door, located in the second bay from the left, is a 19th-century design with four panels, a fanlight, and a pedimented hood. The rear of the house is irregular and features 19th-century casements.
