Description

The Gate House is an 18th-century building located on Park Street. It is three storeys tall, constructed of red brick with a projecting rendered plinth. There is a string course at the first floor level and a projecting brick band over the second-floor windows, which is capped with stone moulding. The building features a rendered parapet with stone coping and an old tile roof.

On the upper floors, there are four windows, with the two on the second floor being square, and three windows on the ground floor. All windows have stone cills. To the right of the centre, there is a recessed six-panelled door adorned with a brass lion knocker and a rectangular fanlight composed of concentric semi-circles, radiating bars, and wreaths. The door case includes an architrave surround, carved scroll brackets, and a small moulded and denticulated cornice with a pediment. The bed mould and denticulations of the cornice project forward over the brackets.

The east elevation has one window on the right side, with the second-floor window featuring sliding Venetian shutters. The Gate House is part of a group that includes Park Street Lodge, Nos 2 to 16 (consecutive), Nos 25 to 28 (local only), the entrance to Black Lion Yard, Nos 20 to 24 (consecutive), the archway to Royal Mews, Nos 29 to 35 (consecutive), Cambridge Lodge, and Cambridge Gate.
