Description

Nos 6 and 7 on High Street are late 18th century buildings that were altered in the 19th century. They stand three storeys tall, with the upper floors made of chequered red and grey brick, featuring a second floor string course. The buildings have a panelled parapet with moulded stone coping and a blocking cornice. There are four windows, with the glazing on the second floor altered. The second floor includes one window with three arched lights topped by a cornice, while the first floor has 19th century three-light rectangular bay windows.

The ground floor of No. 6 has a modern shop front, and No. 7 features a mid-19th century shop front with three arched lights separated by arched panels, along with a five-panel door in an arched opening to the left and console brackets supporting the cornice above. At the rear of No. 7, there is a two-storey wing built around 1840-1850, which has a gable with bargeboards and a tripartite pilastered window on the first floor. The ground floor is flanked by double panelled diamond block pilasters, with side windows and similar pilasters surrounding broad tripartite French casements in the centre, all topped by decorated brackets supporting a full-width cornice.

These buildings are part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 4 (consecutive), 4a, 5 to 9 (consecutive), 9A, 10 to 26 (consecutive), the Dairy Pavilion in the garden of No. 7, and Mistress Pages House.
