Description
This building is a threshing barn dating from the late 16th century, located approximately 30 metres northeast of Nos 1 and 2 Smewins Cottages on Smewins Road in Shottesbrooke. The barn features a timber frame, with parts weatherboarded and others filled with brick, topped by an old tile gabled roof. It has a rectangular plan consisting of five framed bays, with a central midstrey on the west and aisles on either side. There are large plank doors leading to the midstrey and a waggon exit on the east side. Inside, the barn boasts Queen post roof trusses, clasped purlins, and large curved windbraces, with principal rafters of a consistent size and jowled posts. The timber frame is of good quality and is virtually complete.
