Description
Rosehill is a large country house situated in landscaped grounds, dating from around 1900. The house is constructed primarily of brick, with some areas rendered and painted, and features tile gabled roofs. Its long, rectangular plan is punctuated by angled, gabled projections on the north side. Parts of the house are two storeys in height, while others have two storeys with attics. Numerous large chimneys are present, embellished with cornices and clay pots, and a moulded eaves cornice runs around the building. Windows are mostly casement windows; those on the attic floor have a central arched light, while other floors feature mullioned and transomed windows.
The south front, which serves as the entrance front, is irregular in appearance. A distinctive feature is the double-gabled attic floor situated to the left of centre, with a projecting entrance bay below that contains a large window on the first floor and a plain entrance door. A smaller, lower service extension is located on the left end.
The east front has two bays, mirroring the double-gable design found on the attic floor. A flat-roofed pergola, spanning three bays, stands on the ground level, supported by wooden columns with moulded bases and capitals, and flanked by balustrades.
The interior has been little altered and exhibits a restrained aesthetic. A particularly notable feature is the stairhall, which is designed in a Jacobean style, incorporating a close-beamed ceiling, a triple arched screen enclosing a closed string staircase, and a fireplace that appears to be a later addition but is in keeping with the architectural style.
