Description

No 4 West Mills is an early 19th-century extension to No 3, which was converted in the mid-19th century, after 1849, into a separate double-fronted residence facing west. The building has two storeys and features three windows. It has a hipped slate roof with projecting eaves and is finished in stucco. The windows are recessed sash windows with glazing bars. A notable feature is the fine late 18th-century Doric prostyle portico, which originally served as the entrance to the former White Hart Inn at No 24 Market Place. The portico includes leaf decoration on the necking of the capitals, a triglyph frieze, and mutules with guttae. The square-headed doorway has a geometrical-patterned fanlight and a half-glazed door.
