Description

The Forge is a late 16th-century and late 18th-century building, altered in the 19th century. It is partly timber framed with brick infill and partly rendered brick, with an old tile roof that is hipped at the front and gabled at the rear. The building has a T-shaped plan, with an 18th-century section forming the front and two framed 16th-century bays at the rear, with an outshot. It is two storeys and one-and-a-half storeys in height, with a chimney on the left. The front has three bays of 19th-century, two-light casements, the central one blocked. A planked entrance door is on the ground floor, sheltered by a plain flat hood supported by cut brackets, with a similar casement on either side. The interior reveals the timber frame at the rear, where the ground floor beams are chamfered with run-out stops.
