Description
Puddle Wharf is a cottage located on Inkpen Weavers Lane, dating from the late 16th century, with alterations from the 18th century and additions from the 20th century. The building features a timber frame with painted brick infill, a painted brick and tile-hung gable, and a tiled roof. It has a rectangular plan with a lobby entry and is 1 and a half storeys tall, including one gabled dormer and a central chimney. The cottage consists of two bays of timber frame, with a one-storey 20th-century extension to the east.
On the south elevation, there is one casement window in each bay, flanking a central gabled porch which is a 20th-century extension to the right. This porch has a door beneath a flat hood supported by timber posts, along with a casement window. Inside, the first floor displays exposed chamfered and stopped beams, which, along with the chimney, are likely a later addition from the early 18th century. A fireplace beam bears the date 1753 scratched into it. This cottage is reputed to have been one of the blanket weaver's cottages that gave Weaver's Lane its name.
