Description
26 and 27 High Street is a house and shop, now functioning solely as a shop. The building dates from the 16th, 17th, and 19th centuries, with 20th-century alterations. It features tiled roofs and is constructed of painted brick, with some areas rendered and some timber framing exposed internally. The structure is two storeys high with an attic and has three large gables and one small gable facing the road. The two left gables are rendered, while the others are brick. Each of the two right gables has one two-light window. There are eight mullion and transom leaded windows, with two on each gable.
On the ground floor, there is an early 20th-century shop front that projects from the facade, featuring a central door, pilasters, a fascia, and a cornice supported by flattened console brackets. To the right, there is one mullion and transom leaded window and a 20th-century door in a plain doorcase with an open pediment, along with two mullion and transom windows at the far right. Inside, there is some 18th-century panelling on the first floor of No. 26, along with a bolection fire surround. The rear building of No. 26 has two raised crucks.
