Description

This is an early 19th-century reconstruction of earlier buildings, located on the Market Place. A lead plaque, dated 1681 and discovered during restoration work at No. 25, is now fixed to the front of the building. In 1849, the building comprised five separate units, now occupied by three businesses. The property rises three storeys. No. 21 has three windows, No. 23 has two, and No. 25 has two windows, with a recessed single-window bay at the north end. The front is faced with stucco. The roof is hipped and covered in Welsh slate. The windows are recessed sash windows with glazing bars. The first-floor window of the south bay of No. 25 has been altered, and the first floor of the north bay features a shallow bow window and an arched window on the second floor. Modern shop fronts are present. A passageway connects Nos. 21 and 23. To the rear of No. 21 is a three-gabled 18th-century brick wing. The wing retains some original early 18th-century sash windows on the ground floor and has a moulded brick overhang. The gables are tile hung and feature moulded wooden bargeboards and pendants. A large central chimney stack is a prominent feature.
