Description
85 and 87 Reading Road are two cottages, now serving as a cottage and a coach drivers' mess. They date from the late 17th century and have 20th-century additions at the rear. The cottages are timber framed, featuring angle braces and queen post trusses that are visible in the gable ends. The structure includes red brick nogging, partial red brick facing, and is rendered up to the cill level. The roof is covered with old tiles, featuring a catslide over the outshot at the rear, an end stack to the right, a ridge stack that is off-centre to the left, and a central raking dormer with a felt roof and twin sash windows. The building consists of three framed bays and is one storey high with an attic. There are four glazing bar sash windows and a boarded door located off-centre to the right, positioned between the first and second windows from the right, along with a blocked door off-centre to the left, situated between the third and fourth windows from the right. The entrance to No. 85 is at the west end.
